My Websites are Sealed

My mind has a strange way of picking odd events which escape common interest as events of significance. What leaves me particularly astounded is the fact that for some odd, eccentric reason, I tend to find things which others would find extremely ordinary as symbols of abrupt change of chapter in the ever evoloving drama which surrounds us and what confounds me even more is the fact that quite so often people around me do not find those very events quiet uninportant and boring. For instance, when the president of the elected party steps aside and pushes on the collective throat of the nation a selected premier in stead of an elected one, creating a parallel governance structure like the communist Soviet Russsia, people hailed it as a sign of a great sacrifice with a complete drama including a small time politician pointing gun to his head, I was more worried than charmed.
The selected could never have the real power, he could only pretend to be helpless. But then, choices are always there for every man, it is only the strength and courage to make them that is in wanting. One is only weak to the extent of one's greed. When a regional political party's satrap insisted on on particular portfolio as a pre-condition to support a government, anyone could easily work out that that could not have been on account of love for technology. But than such acts of commission and omission only are minor scars on the psychological landscape of a nation. That is not serious, even if serious, not threatening to the longetivity and well-being of nation. What causes serious threat is the loss of structure, which is the first step towards loss of any sense of direction. This is what has happened to the country, when we are all the time looking at people who hold almost zero accountability to be making policy decisions. Odd that Anna Hazare is even asked for the way india ought to conduct itself in te intrernational arena, whose experience and competence in that arena could be easily equated with that Suhel Seth on the executive council of Indian Railways. But whay better option we as a nation are left with, you can ask the PM to take rigt decisions, but even if he is found to make wrong one's time and again, there is precious little we as a nation can do, he has not contested people's poll, nor does he seem inclined to. You want to ask the king makers to make right decisions, but they dont hold any position which can be put to peril in the evnt of those decisions being wrong. You can ask team anna about taking wrong decisions, but then they do not hold a position, losing which can be a deterrent for them from taking wrong decisions.
Anyways, these are still points captivation collective national curiosity, there are small things which worry me, thngs which fly below the radar of collective conscience. For instance, what happened to the DIG of UP Police, who was declared insane, the moment he spoke about the corruptioninthe government their. The clinical and dispassionate manner in which a senior government ofice was pulled out of his office, was terribly scary. Even scarier is the fact that the poor man did not get any sympathy from any quarter, neither opposition parties, nor the civil society, nor the so called middle class with endless supplies of candles. That news visual of an old officer being dragged away was so scary and I remembered Shiv Khera's quote that ifyour neighbor is being beaten and you dont raise a protest, you are most certainly next on the line. Big acts ot iterrorism do not happen at one go, they build on such small displays of arrogance going unprotested. So we had a public build up against corruption being crushed on mid night in the capital, Tax authories suddenly waking up to the the guy who landed on the other side of fight against corruption, then the DIG being dragged away, and now we have a very confident minister talking about taking control over internet.
We had among us, the shy silent types, who felt much but spoke little, they found voice on the internet where they could speak up as @xyz and still be heard. Now the power is out to crush the same, the same way as those cut down the resources of wikileaks. The world's largest democracy showed how to crush the voice of the meek, the most populous one looks to follow the suit. Yes, I am hurt and sad and sorry, but my lips..or. My website is sealed.

Holy Cow!! Indian Media and the Reporting of Riots

A man walks into metro station, shoot himself. The story is a footnote on some inside pages of the newspaper. Even if someone reads it, it is security lapse which stands out. The dead doesn’t evoke attention, let alone sympathy. Without personalization, it is a lame news. I am not a journalist. I am not even a student of journalism in proper sense. If I go by the wise words by Anne Lamott , and analyze the reports, the intent and interest of the journalist stands open for scrutiny. A murder in Dadri, sad as it is, outcome of rumor or fact, is reported way differently from the way, the gory murder of a reporter in same state or killing of a soldier in same state is reported. Annie Lamott tells us that we need to be presented with the actors in a story with human perspective, that what they were as human beings, beyond a statistics or a name. We know the man murdered in Dadri was doing errands for the village, a soft-spoken man, who, with hard work did well to place his kids in...
